Here’s one example of what I mean: did you know that the way
most guys do their sets of exercises in the gym actually isn’t even ideal for
gaining muscle? Now here’s what I mean. What you see, 95% of beginners in the
gym are actually doing what we call regular sets. Regular sets are simple. You
just do a certain number of repetition for a single exercise, then you stop.
For example, if I lift the weight up and down and do let’s say a dumbbell chest
press 10 times, then stop, that’d be a regular set. Regular sets actually
aren’t bad for most people. I mean, in fact, many of my own workout programs
consist of mostly regular sets.
But they’re actually not ideal, though, for gaining muscle.
And the main reason for this is that regular sets waste a huge amount of time.
You’re only exerting yourself for a few seconds, then most guys will go ahead
and take a few minutes of rest. And of course, you can just try and do your
sets without as much rest, but since you’re working the same body part, you’ll
lift far less weight if you don’t allow yourself to recover, which means you’ll
build less muscle.
Advanced guys in the gym realize this, which is why you see
many of them doing what we call supersets. That’s basically when you do two or
more exercises for the same body part back to back. For example, if I did 10
repetitions on the bench press, and then 10 reps on let’s say a dumbbell chest
press right afterwards, that’d be a super set.
